I made Play Doh a couple of weeks ago and tried to introduce it to Anna again now that she’s a bit older than the last time. She kept trying to put it in her mouth. I’m not sure why – she doesn’t tend to put much in mouth other than food and I can’t imagine it tastes all that wonderful. But she kept trying so I took it away.
The next time I gave it to her, she didn’t put the Play Doh in her mouth but kept touching it and then starting to put her fingers in her mouth. It’s as if she knew it annoyed me so she kept faking me out! Frustrating.
I gave some to mom and asked her to try every so often since it’s a good activity for her hands. She tried yesterday and said that Anna was good about it for about ten minutes. She broke it apart and put it in a bowl for her. A good start.
Last night I took some out to reinforce the fun she had with Grandma, and she did a good job. In fact, when I started to take it away, she started to get upset. She sat in her high chair with the tray on and I sat opposite her. She, for most part, broke it apart and handed it to me or put it aside on the tray. I tried to show her how to smoosh it and play with it more aggressively. She thought it was hysterical – got a lot of belly laughs out of it. But she didn’t copy too many of my actions. She did, however, enjoy poking it with one of her plastic spoons.
I guess it’s like anything else, keep introducing it and eventually they get it!
